I unintentionally did a sort of a blog roll call in my "HI JOE" post....lol....so, let's see--my blog readers are
1. Gina, always, unless on vacation
2. Melanee, looks at pictures
3 & 4. Krisha and Trisha, no relation, but sounds good to say together
5. Sharon, skips over anything soccer related
6. My dad, everyday, a couple times a day
7. Michelle
8. Richard (I even got him to comment)
9. Ann (she thinks I blog "too much") (my words, not hers so I don't know why I put them in quotes, lol.)
10. David ("SOMETIMES")
11. WHITNI (every post, even the boring ones, word for word, every word)
So, looks like I put all this effort into this blog for my top 11 family and friends. I hope you enjoy it, cuz I like doing it!

Soccer Fashion
I would NEVER claim to be a fashion expert at ANYTHING. (You should see the way I dress, comfort is the only thing I am concerned about....the ONLY thing!) But I know what I like and don't like in a soccer uniform and soccer accessories. I would love to have a job at Adidas, Nike, or Puma and be able to design uniforms.
Here's what I would do or not do- I would use ALL of the team's colors. If their colors are red, black, and white, they would get red jerseys, black shorts, and white writing and numbers. Simple, right? It really bugs me when a team has 3 colors in their color scheme, but uses just 2 of them. (Example, today Foothill had NO black on their uniforms ANYWHERE.) I like how the Colorado Rockies have the light blue accents in a few places on their uniforms. Three colors look better than 2...example, Chelsea, wouldn't they look better with a 3rd color, possibly black...they'd look similar to the San Jose Earthquakes, who have awesome uniforms.
I also like when the players have uniform numbers on the front of their jerseys. It looks fine centered, but better off centered, near the shoulder. Most professional teams have their number on the front of their shorts instead of their shirts, because most of them have HUGE sponsor logos on their chests. What are soccer players? NASCAR drivers? Are they running advertisements? Don't you think we get enough advertising while watching the game with those sideline waist tall computerized advertising boards? Amway, herbalife, Glidden.....LAME. Do you see NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB wearing sponsor logos? No! But I'm sure they are sponsored just the same, just without sponsorship names plastered on their shirts.
I also like either the player's last name or team name above their numbers on the back of their jerseys. I know that isn't always practical in high school and college because they typically don't get new jerseys each year, so in those cases it looks good with the school name above the number. (For Example, Foothill has "Foothill" or BYU has "Cougars"). If the front of a jersey is completely BLANK, it looks SO, well, blank. William's team has NOTHING on the front of their shirts or shorts. PLAIN white for home games, PLAIN blue for away games. BYU has both Brigham Young and below that the player's number on the front of their shirts and they don't look tooooooooo crowded. So, I do LIKE some stuff on jerseys, just not sponsor logos and i definitely don't like them BLANK.
Back numbers should be fairly large, small ones look out of proportion. (see Golden State Warriors, I know they are a basketball team, but their numbers are the WRONG size.)
Alternate uniforms--- they can be cool, but they aren't necessary. And theyCAN cause problems. For example, a few weeks ago Seattle played Columbus Crew (what a lame name for a soccer team and their team logo is three guys--realllly lame!). Seattle usually wears green uniforms. Here's a good place to state that I LOVE Seattle's color scheme, the shade of blue is perfect with their shade of green. Columbus usually wears bright yellow uniforms. During this particular game Columbus was wearing all BLACK uniforms, alternates, I guess. They looked just like DC United. And Seattle wore their alternates, which were all bright yellow. It was like early Halloween with Columbus disguised as DC United and Seattle dress in Columbus costumes. I did like SVU's pink alternate shirts for their cancer awareness game. And I did like the time the Hornets wore red uniforms for Valentine's Day, so I'm not totally against alternate uniforms, I just think that they are another added, unnecessary cost. They are fun, though. I am hoping the Kings will break out their black alternates this year. The gold ones from a few years back were ODD, very odd, with a stripe around one arm, but not the other, and with their silky shiny sweaty looking fabric, just ugly and weird and they were UNLUCKY, I don't think the Kings won a game in them....so much for the "Gold Standard".
Adidas brand is the official uniformer of MLS. They have a corner on that market. They do a good job, but I think teams should have whatever uniform brand they want. Variety is best! It's fun to see the different brands at the World Cup.
I've said before that I don't like collars on soccer jerseys. And let's talk about FIT. I like short sleeved jerseys better. They look better and I remember wearing long sleeved jerseys all through high school and they aren't comfortable. I don't like the jersey to be tight fitting (like David Beckham). And loose fitting sleeves, those tight, sometimes 3/4 sleeves have got to be SO uncomfortable. I also don't like super long shorts on soccer players, they belong on the basketball court. Those soccer shorts that are shorter in the front than in the back look silly. I don't like when the spandex hang way lower than the shorts. I don't like super long above the knee socks. I don't like realllly low socks, either. On girls (women) they should not wear SHORT shorts as uniform shorts. I KNOW, I KNOW they are EASIER to run in, but they look unprofessional (***see BYU).
Bright cleat color seems to be a popular fad. When I was a kid everyone wore black cleats....now a days black cleats are a rarity. Most players choose the boldest, brightest colors, colors which don't even match their team's color scheme. That's ok, I guess, but if a really awful player comes out in Orange cleats, he's just calling attention to himself, he or she should leave the statement cleats to those who can make a statement and back up their boldness on the field.
I've already written about my dislike of girly headbands on boys. If their hair is so long that it affects their game, time for a HAIR CUT not a hair band! I also think boys look silly in gloves while playing. Remember last year Onyewu Oguchi, the largest, buffest, tallest, scariest player ON THE FIELD wore sissy gloves to keep his fingies warm during the game. I don't have a problem with people keeping their hands warm, but if it is not below freezing and if only ONE player on the field is wearing gloves, he is going to look woosie. (I'm talking field players wearing field player gloves, not goalies.)
Goalies uniforms should semi match the rest. They should be the same brand, same font, same logos. They should NOT be all white---white shirt, white shorts, white socks.....leave the white for the field players, even on a hot day. When I was a kid, all goal keepers wore knee pads, they don't now, but some wear goalie pants. Those look fine, but goalies should NOT wear capris. And if their team is red, they should not wear dark orange...it's too close, too similar, too hard to distinguish.
Red Bluff's captains had "c"'s stitched on their jerseys. Cool, if you are a HOCKEY PLAYER....not cool for soccer teams.
If I were Richard, I'd go find photos for all these examples! But it's late and very hard to drag and space the pictures if I put them in AFTER all this typing. So just trust me, my opinions are correct!
***I wrote this post above all last night. I woke up this morning to watch the English Premier league. Turn on my tv, see it's Chelsea vs. Blackburn. I see that the royal blue team has half white jerseys, with RED writing.....thinking...hey, Chelsea is finally trying to dress up their style......BUUUUUUUT that team is NOT Chelsea, Chelsea is wearing the BLACK uniforms. Wouldn't you think that BLACKBurn would REP black for a color??? (Maybe not, afterall Red Bluff is green, you know.) No, Blackburn's home jerseys are these two tones blue/white ones and thier away jerseys are RED...black is not a team color! ODD.
Well, I do see orange for their 3 Stripes Adidads trend for sleeves....maybe these are their Halloween costumes or Halloween themed shirts, like the red unis for the Hornets or the Green Raptors unis for St. Patrick's Day. These black ones actually are their AWAY uniforms....their 3rd uniforms are Seattle Sounders green.
The ref has on an orange ref shirt, is he reppin Halloween colors, too?
HAHA. Yeah, my help is REALLY needed ALL AROUND the WORLD in designing uniforms. Yeah, I think so!

PV vs. Foothill
After warm ups, William's team always leaves the field and then they walk back onto the field all in a straight line like this.
Then they do their team cheer.
They beat Foothill today 5-0.
William got to play at the end.

This picture is just too funny...look where the ball is, behind William, and look at Timmy kicking way AFTER the ball has already passed, and look at the one guy wincing...that ball flew past all of them!
One player from Foothill got his legs hit out from underneath him....he flew up into the air and came down HARD. He was rolling in pain, but after a few minutes, the refs called the game (it was near the end and already 5-0). The player said he couldn't move his neck. Two fire engines and an ambulance came. I hope he will be OK.

HI JOE
A friend at work asked for my blog address. I gave it to him, but was just skimming over my past months worth of blogging and WOW, I am ONE borning BLOGGER and I blog A LOT about SOCCER! Joe, do what Melanee does, just look at the pictures, haha. Sorry you missed the juicy letter! (*removed to protect the people who don't want their good names to be tarnished in the opinions of my 6 blog readers- Trisha, Krisha, my dad, Michelle, Gina (sometimes), and Ann (when her life isn't upheaveled.) (***and by the way, RICHARD....I blog for COMMENTS, seriously, you need to COMMENT once in a while, so that I can make my list of blog followers 7).
Breaking Down the Walls
William was on the local news tonight. He actually sounded semi-educated when interviewed. (MELANEE!) I tried to find a video on the Action News web site, but just like yesterday when I tried to find the article featuring a picture of Melanee in the local Buena Vista paper, IT WASN'T online. I thought you could find ANYTHING on the web....NOT true!
William was interviewed about a program at PV high called "Breaking Down the Walls". He has been a part of it all four year of high school, I think. This time he was one of the leaders. It's a program where the kids open up and get to know each other better. This year was an even more emotional year for the kids because a few weeks ago one of their class mates killed himself. The students have taken his death really hard. He was a smart kid, very outgoing, even played sports, but he was also teased and bullied because he didn't know how to act in a way that is "socially acceptable". So SAD! Also, last week one of the teacher's son was killed in a one car accident. He was also an assistant football coach at the school and an aide for the special ed class. Very well liked!

PV vs. Red Bluff
William's team played Red Bluff again today (Red Bluff's school color is GREEN, not red, go figure). The last few times they've played Red Bluff the games have been blow outs, in favor of PV, but this time the final score was only 2-1. Wait, I think it was 3-1. But it should have been like 18-1, PV had SO many chances, which they BLEW. William got in late in the game and touched the ball ONCE....on this header....which I got a picture of...woo hoo.....but the header didn't really count because the RedBluff guy who threw it in, lifted his foot, so it was called back as soon as William headed it.

Happy Birthday Melanee

I am not using my computer right now, so I can't pull up some cute baby picture or some non soccer themed picture of Melanee for this post, but after I thought about it for a second...(I tried to edit this photo to just be Mel, didn't work) I came to the conclusion that this picture *just the way it is) is PERFECT for this post, because what else would signify Melanee's happiness, life, friends, and favorite surroundings RIGHT NOW- her with her teammates at the soccer field- PERFECT....and LOOK at those SMILES!!!!!!!
So, Happy Birthday Melanee!!!! You can NOT be 20 years old, can you? No, I clearly remember the day you were born. I still vividly recall my mom, in spirit, arriving there in the delivery room, bringing you to me from above. I know that might sound weird, but I truly believe that you met her and she loves you! Well, of course she loves you....EVERYBODY loves you. You and your smile and your personality are a brightness in people's lives. The older people at church always ask about you. Do you even know them? You mean a lot to them and all you had to do was be yourself. Kids love you, too. You are just so admirable to everyone.
It's so cool to have you as my daughter. It's like having a celebrity for a daughter because everywhere I go people ask about you and how you are doing. The people at church, school, work, old friends I see randomly around town, their lives have all been touched by your happiness and your light. We each have lights that shine, most are dim.....yours is BRIGHT. You glow. I am proud (SO proud) to have you for a daughter. I know I probably brag about you too much (Bradley and Andrew think I do), but what else beside you in my life is there to be as proud of? Your successes bring your whole family joy. Your experiences are something we can enjoy along with you. It's fun having you for a daughter. You are fun and funny. I like laughing with you. SOMETIMES it's even fun to be laughed at BY you. Every mom should be able to have a friend who is their daughter. I know sons are fun and cool and all that, too (GINA), but daughters, like Melanee, are also friends (girl friends, trust me, their different). I love my little boys. I also sometimes feel so outnumbered by all these boys, so I am so happy to have a daughter. I was laughing with someone the other day that I miss having someone to do my hair or pluck my eyebrows....William refuses and I wouldn't trust Bradley or Andrew or Scott....haha.....
I look at all the little girls at school and remember when you were young. You had short hair for a long time, but remember when I learned how to french braid? I think I did something or another to your hair from pig tails to crazy braid into pony tails every day from jr high onto possibly junior year of high school.....OOPS, I think I got carried away, I should have been teaching you about make up and hair straighteners WAY before you learned them on your own IN COLLEGE! You are 20 now, a grown up, no more needing help with your hair. WOW! Really, I wonder sometimes if you even need my help anymore. I have taught you where to put a stamp on a letter and how to shop sale items, but I truly hope I have taught you enough. You are SO FAR away in Virginia and I miss you and think about you all the time. I know you are smart, but I still worry about you. I keep you in my prayers...which usually go something like this----bless Melanee's team to win, Melanee to score, Melanee to NOT GET HURT-----lol------no, seriously......it's ok for me to pray like that, right? Heavenly Father MUST have his favorite sport teams, it only makes sense that he would root for Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer team.....I have faith that he will answer my sincere soccer prayers!!!! haha!!!!! Yeah, that's the way I roll. (*I've always wanted to say that! Does it fit here?)
Anyway, I asked Stuart Holden to Twitter you a Happy Birthday, so check your twitter account sometime today.
I hope you have a wonderful day. I look forward to hearing all about it. And I think Matt was just kidding about Taco Bell......tradition all over the world states that birthday girl gets to pick the dinner meal!
I love you, you have to know that!!! You are my sweet, beautiful, wonderful, precious daughter.
***I could SERIOUSLY make this A LOT longer, but I just remembered that Melanee only looks at the pictures on my LONG blog posts, so I'll stop now, try to keep it short. (Well, semi short!)

Another Assist
I don't have any pictures.....but I will blog that Melanee's team WON again tonight!
It was an away game, so I searched the other team's web site and found that they had LIVE STATS. I was pretty excited because most of the time there is nothing, BUUUUUUUUT, only problem was that the game was at 7:00 Eastern time which is 4:00 my time, which meant that I would only get to read the live stats for a little while at the start and a little while at the very end because I had to coach Andrew's team's soccer practice. So I started the computer at 4:00 exactly and the live stats said it was already 4 minutes into the game. Melanee's team had already taken a shot and kicked a corner kick, but then the screen didn't change for a LONG time, that's because with LIVE STATS writing only appears for - shots, substitutions, and corner kicks. So there can be a long time between lines going up on the screen. I wish it was someone sitting there typing something like "Melanee passes it to Emma who chips it up over the defender to Kendra who heads it in to the back of the net!" but it doesn't, the details are NOT THERE. So even though I'm glad they have SOMETHING to help us follow the game, LIVE STATS are totally LAME. >>>>>> except, when I come home from soccer practice, get the computer going on the Ferrum web site to the live stats page to see right there on the screen SVU 1 Ferrum 0....then continue to read to see that Melanee was listed as the "star of the game" or "player to watch" or "leader" or some little box they had in the bottom of the screen. Then I read the play by play and see that Tamara scored the goal on a corner kick kicked by MELANEE!!!!! So, I guess live stats do thrill me! I was reallllllllllllly excited and happy......especially as I watched the clock tick to 90:00 and saw the "end of match" words appear magically on my computer screen!

PV vs. Chico
I don't think this was the last time PV will face Chico. The two teams are very competitive with each other and I think PV can beat them. I also think they will probably meet in a few weeks in the playoffs.
William played in the game as a sub. He got in right before half time. I even got a picture of him on the field, but about 30 seconds after he came into the game, the ref blew the whistle for half time. William didn't even touch the ball! He didn't get back in after that. He was MMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PV lost 2-0. Chico's 2nd goal the kid did a bicycle kick FOR A GOAL.
Galaxy vs. Chivas
A few weeks ago the Chivas played the Galaxy. Last year the Galaxy was my favorite team. This year the Chivas are one of my favorite teams
(I have a BUNCH of favorites). I was rooting for the Chivas, but I only have a Galaxy shirt, so I made Bradley wear his Chivas shirt. (YES, I KNOW this is a Chivas Guadalajara shirt, Richard!) (And NO, Beckham isn't my favorite, the shirt was just on sale.)
And not too long ago "Napoleon Dynamite" was on tv......does this picture remind you of Uncle Rico's photo shoot with Deb?
Clouds are COOL
I notice pretty clouds all the time. My favorite are the big, white, fluffy ones when there is a bright blue sky behind them. A few weeks ago we were driving up to my dad's house when I saw these. I took this picture while in the car. Turned out pretty good, so here it is on my blog for all to enjoy.
Arrow of Light
The scout master wasn't at the Pack Meeting, so I had to hand out the awards to the Wolves and Bears. I messed up A LOT, it's not easy.
But the most exciting part of the night came when Bradley earned his Arrow of Light award. He was really excited and we are proud of him, even if I do hate SCOUTING right about now
(LONG story...may blog about it sometime). (may not also).
3 Assists = WIN

Melanee's team has been smokin HOT lately, no, I'm not talking about what they look like, although with 8 red heads on the team, they are probably described by some of the SVU guys as "smokin hot", I'm talking here about their win/loss record, they haven't lost a game in a month. They have won or tied the last 6 or 7 games straight. EXCITING times for SVU women's soccer.
On Tuesday they had a home game. It was dubbed the "kick for a cure" and they accepted donations to go toward a cancer awareness and cure. They even got to wear cool pink jerseys and pink bows in their hair. Melanee has a friend from the local high school girls soccer team who is also a skilled photographer. She took these pictures FOR ME. (I actually promised her some $$$ , so I better get a check in the mail cuz these turned out GOOD).

Melanee "Best Trip EVER!!!"
Melanee and a few of her friends took a road trip to Washington D.C. this weekend. She said it was the "Best trip ever" and wanted me to blog about it, so she texted me some of the details. I think I will just re-type her texts here so you can hear from HER how much she enjoyed the trip and some of the things she got to do.
"It was SOOOOOO much fun! We left after practice, me, emma, tam, and garrett drove to DC, ate at Taco Bell had a ton of fun! got to the nicest hotel ever! it had glass elevators and waterfalls. It was a ton of stories high. after we got to the hotel we walked to the monuments. that was fun. we took pics at the monuments and got back to the hotel at like 3 am, slept on the floor.
